Those who live with their families are also frequently excluded from society due to a lack of community support. To help address this issue, the University of Delaware’s National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities (NLCDD) developed, in partnership with the Tizard Center at the University of Kent (UK), a two-part leadership development program in Budapest, Hungary called “Leading Change – From Institutional to Community Based Services for People with Mental Disabilities.”

European Union Ratifies CRPD

The European Disability Forum reports that the European Community has just ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. vUnprecedented step forward for the first human rights treaty ratified in the history of Europe and a great signal sent to all EU Members States.

OHCHR hosts consultation on the CRPD in Geneva

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) will host an open-ended consultation meeting on National Frameworks for the Implementation and Monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on 26 October 2009 in Geneva at the Palais des Nations, Room XII, from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00 hours.
