I am happy to share with everyone that Disabled People's International (DPI) hosted its first Arab Regional Assembly in Cairo, Egypt from April 22-24, 2014.
Over the last one year, DPI, supported by its partner in the Arab region - Lebanese Physically Handicapped Union (LPHU), has been working on reviving and reigniting the disability movement in the often neglected Arab world. Despite all odds, the DPI-Arab region took off in December 2013 during its first regional meeting held in Beirut, Lebanon.
The Regional Assembly that was held over the last three days saw the newly formed member representatives come together to discuss a way forward for the newly formed DPI-Arab region. The Assembly also hosted its first ever historic elections, the results of which I would like to share with all of you:
BOARD MEMBERS OF THE DPI-ARAB REGION
Chairperson - Sylvana El Lakkis (Lebanon)
Vice-Chairperson 1 - Basher El Faitoury (Libya)
Vice-Chairperson 2 - Reham Al Masry (Egypt)
Secretary - Ahmed Berkia (Morocco)
Treasurer - Manal Ali Saleh Al Ashwal (Yemen)
Also sharing a photograph of the newly formed board.
