London 2012 - Paralympic Games

The Paralympic Games will be held in London from 29 August to 9 September 2012. The Games, one of the world’s largest multi-sport events, showcase the achievements of athletes with an impairment to a global audience and act as a primary vehicle to change societal perceptions and leave lasting legacies. The Games are organized by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement that works to enable Paralympic athletes to achieve sporting excellence and inspire and excite the world. The IPC has also partnered with Motivation, an international development charity supporting people with mobile disabilities, to design a high-quality low-cost racing wheelchair. Motivation plans to produce four sizes of the chair to help develop affordable wheelchair racing in low-income countries. A prototype of the chair was recently tried out at the sixth International Athletics Meeting in Tunisia from 23-27 March. The organization plans to launch the chair at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. More information: http://www.paralympic.org/news/ipc-supports-design-low-cost-racing-chair
